Excellent Resistance to Corrosion 
HASTELLOY® C-276 alloy is a nickel-molybdenum-chromium wrought alloy that is generally considered a versatile corrosion-resistance alloy. C-276 alloy is an improved wrought version of alloy C in that it usually doesn't need to be solution heat-treated after welding and has vastly improved fabricability. This alloy resists the formation of grain-boundary precipitaties in the weld heat-affected zone, thus making it suitable for most chemical process applications in the as-welded condition. However, in environments where attack of the C-276 alloy weld joint is experienced, C-22® weld filler materials should be considered.

C-276 alloy has excellent resistance to localized corrosion and to both oxidizing and reducing media. Because of its versatility, C-276 alloy can be used where "upset" conditions are likely to occur or in multipurpose plants.

HASTELLOY C-276 alloy has excellent resistance to a wide variety of chemical process environments, including strong oxidizers such as ferric and cupric chlorides, hot contaminated media (organic and inorganic), chlorine, formic and acetic acids, acetic anhydride, and seawater and brine solutions. It is used in flue gas desulfurization systems because of its excellent resistance to sulfur compounds and chloride ions encounted in most scrubbers. C-276 alloy has excellent resistance to pitting and to stress-corrosion cracking. It is also one of the few materials that withstands the corrosive effects of wet chlorine gas, hypochlorite, and chlorine dioxide.

WP (S) = Seamless 
WP (W) = Welded 
WP (WX) = Welded with 100% x-ray 
WP (U) = Welded with 100% Ultrasonic examination 
CR = Corrosion resistant in acordance with MSS SP-43 

Nickel Alloy Specifications especially in pipe and tube refer only to the UNS number for material identification. Classes and Grades are occasionally used to identify options for items such as NDT, heat treatment or different methods employed when welding with filler metal such as single welded or double welded. These options do not result in an additional UNS number in the nickel materials. 

Grades/Classes/Identification Symbols are shown in this table only when they are used for material identification.

Data in this table (except for Valve Castings) was taken from the 2013 editions, Section One Volume 01.01 and Section Two Volume 02.04, of the annual book of ASTM Standards. Casting Specification Data was from Volume 01.02, same edition.

This basic group of Hastelloy products is tailored for use in specific highly corrosive environments.
They are widely used in various acid services in the chemical process industries.
Oil and gas, energy, and pharmaceutical facilities are among those that have found uses for Hastelloy products.
The "B" an"C" series Hastelloys are Nickel-Chrome alloys containing a high percentage of molybdenum.
Cobalt is also specified in all the alloys listed in this table except for Hastelloy G-2.
"G" and "X" Hastelloys have significant molybdenum content, in the same general range found in a 625 alloy.
"B-2" and "B-3" are upgrades of Hastelloy B, with Hastelloy B-3 having improved thermal stability and resistance to stress corrosion cracking.
All of these alloys are known for their resistance to stress corrosion cracking.
