Linepipe
We manufacture Double Submerged Arc Welded (DSAW) linepipe, Submerged Arc Welded (SAW) linepipe and High-Frequency Induction (HFI) welded linepipe for use in a wide range of applications.
Double Submerged Arc Welded (DSAW) linepipe
This is manufactured to address wide-ranging demands at our 42" Pipe Mill, located at Hartlepool in North East England.
The mill is equipped with the strongest edge crimping & ‘O’ Press facilities in the world to enable it to produce DSAW linepipe permitting the widest choice of design options.
Strength grades up to API 5L X80
Diameters from 16"-42" (406.4mm-1067mm OD)
Thicknesses up to 50mm
Annual production capacity circa 300,000 tonnes
Applications are oil & gas pipelines, conductor and carrier pipe for the energy industries, tubular piling for jetties and berthing dolphins.
Submerged Arc Welded (SAW)
The 84" Pipe Mill at Hartlepool manufactures Submerged Arc Welded (SAW) for use in a wide range of applications.
Strength grades up to API 5L X60
Diameters from 18"-84" (457mm-2134mm OD)
Thicknesses up to 30mm
Annual production capacity circa 30,000 tonnes
Applications are oil & gas industries, petrochemical processing, power generation, trunk mains for the water industry, long sea outfalls, onshore & offshore structural applications.
High Frequency Induction (HFI) welded pipe
The 20" Pipe Mill manufactures High Frequency Induction (HFI) welded pipe at Hartlepool in North East England. The mill boasts the world’s most powerful HFI welding equipment making it a premiere quality pipe supplier.
HFI welded linepipe is well established for high integrity onshore application pipelines. It is now also widely accepted for the harsher environments demanded by offshore transportation. With knowledge of modern pipe welding technology and non-destructive testing, we are a leader in this field. The product is unsurpassed for quality and reliabity in any application where welded linepipe is installed.

Oil Country Tubular Goods (OCTG)
We are a major manufacturer of welded linepipe for a wide range of applications and welded plain end tubes for Oil Country Tubular Goods (OCTG).
We supply High Frequency Induction (HFI) and Double Submerged Arc Welded (DASW) welded plain end tubes manufactured on our approved state-of-the-art Hartlepool 20" and 42" Pipe Mills.
We closely control the dimensions of both strip/plate feedstock and finished tubes.
Diameter, ovality and wall thickness are such that there is sufficient material to cut threads, or good fit up for welding connectors

Pipe Coatings
We provide pipe coating services using BSR Pipeline Services Limited.
The range of coatings includes internal liquid epoxy and external FBE and 3 layer PE & PP up to 48" diameter. Also, we are able to offer 4LPP insulation coatings to complement the anti-corrosion coatings on offer from BSR; Subcontracted concrete coating can also be arranged, along with field joint coating if required.
Fusion bonded epoxy coatings
Fusion bonded epoxy coatings have a considerable track record for the anti-corrosion protection of pipes both offshore and onshore. Benefits of this particular coating include:
High productivity rate enabling quicker availability of coated pipe on site.
Protection over a wide temperature range.
Ability to be stored in all climatic conditions.
Long-term adhesion to steel.
Resistance to soil stress and backfill compaction.
High resistance to cathodic disbondment.
Flexible enough to accommodate field pipe bending.
Three layer polyolefin coatings
These systems consist of a powder epoxy primer layer, polymer adhesive layer with an outer layer of polyethylene or polypropylene. Three layer systems offer a number of advantages over fusion bonded epoxy coatings: -
Stronger resistance to damage during transit, storage and laying.
Protection for pipelines at higher operating temperatures; 80°C for Polyethylene; 110°C for Polypropylene.
Suitable for use under concrete weight coatings without further treatment.
Better suited to reel ship-laying methods.
Internal coating
Internal coatings are utilised by both the on and offshore industries to minimise internal corrosion of linepipe systems and to increase flow rates.
4 Layer Polypropylene Insulation
These systems consist of a powder epoxy layer, polymer adhesive layer, layer of foamed polypropylene foam and an outer layer of solid polypropylene. These systems can be used to provide an economical thermal protection for subsea pipelines in moderate water depths where the operating temperature is consistent with the FBE and polypropylene performance (as above).
Pipe-in-Pipe Insulation
We offer a comprehensive project managed portfolio of pipe-in-pipe design solutions including engineering, manufacturing, field jointing and supply services.
Insulation Alternatives
Polyurethane Foam - applied as a bonded system by foam injection or as an unbonded system using sprayed foam.
Hybrid Polyurethane and Nanogel Insulation - This system offers the benefits of a bonded insulation system combined with the thermal performance benefits of nanogel. This system can achieve low overall heat transfer coefficients (<<1 W/m²K), operate at high flowline temperatures (>160°C) while providing an optimum cost solution.
Hydrotherm® - a structural, high temperature (>160°C) based on an alumina silicate microsphere insulation material.

We have an extensive record in supplying Double Submerged Arc Welded (DSAW) pipe to the petrochemical, refinery and power generation industries in 18" to 84" diameters.
The 84" Pipe Mill has the ability to supply small multi-item packages or the larger project requirements. This flexibility is enhanced by the mill's ability to undertake 100% weld radiography and full body heat treatment.
We can also further extend our offering by putting together packages of both seamless and welded pipe, together with associated accessories in a variety of materials including carbon, alloy, stainless steel and special alloys.
